Robotics
Robots are primarily used as mechanical devices to simplify and accelerate everyday tasks, enhance precision, or provide greater visibility and finer motor control than human capabilities allow.
Over the past few years, Cambridge Electronic Industries has been supporting the development of robotic systems, providing high-speed coaxial connectors, enhanced vision solutions for surgical robotics, and custom cables for robotic system integration. We are pleased to support companies in finding the ideal solution, offering expert guidance and detailed product information to help take your designs to the next level.
Enhancing Visibility
A challenge in laparoscopic surgery, where cameras are inserted into the patient’s body, is the need to maintain low operating temperatures. This requirement often necessitates low-voltage signals, which can limit signal resolution and make high magnification of the surgical area difficult.
Originally developed to extend the range of coaxial cable signals at high speed, our Xtensa repeater range has also been utilised to enhance the resolution and magnification of signals in robotic surgical equipment. This solution allows surgeons to operate with greater precision, reducing the need for more invasive procedures and improving patient outcomes.
Precision Manufacturing Equipment
Robotic equipment is not always limited to the mechanical robots we commonly imagine. Cambridge Electronic Industries has been actively supporting and designing products for PCB pick-and-place machines. These systems can position components so small they are barely visible to the naked eye, achieving levels of precision and accuracy far beyond human capability.
By applying machine-vision principles, we have developed specialised coaxial connectors for use in this large-scale manufacturing equipment, enhancing both the visual alignment of components during placement and the accuracy of post-placement inspection. These connectors are not only capable of supporting high-speed imaging but are also engineered with additional rigidity to withstand an extensive number of operating cycles. In developing this solution, we worked closely not only with the equipment OEM but also with a specialist cable manufacturer to create a precision cable option that matches their unique design requirements and delivers the optimal connectivity solution.
Robotics Cable Solutions
One of the key advantages of robotic systems is their ability to reduce the mechanical strain placed on the human body. However, to replicate human movement effectively, robotic arms and machinery must achieve a full range of motion, like the articulation of an elbow or knee. The cabling used within these rotational or flexing joints must therefore meet far more demanding requirements than standard cable assemblies.
At Cambridge Electronic Industries, we understand the specialised needs of modern robotic applications. We provide guidance on highly flexible cable solutions and reliable connectivity options that ensure long-term durability, robust mechanical performance, and optimal signal integrity throughout years of continuous operation. Every application is unique, and we are always happy to discuss your specific requirements and work with you to develop the perfect solution for your needs.
Bespoke Cables
As a designer of connectors, Cambridge Electronic Industries can also offer bespoke connector solutions. As well as designs for coaxial connectors we are also happy to look at other connector styles and have provided unique designs for military use. Working over a number of manufacturing sites, each with individual expertise, we are able to offer a full range of manufacturing options to take a design from concept to reality.
12GHz Micro BNC Range
The Micro BNC range offers the user the same electrical characteristics of the BNC connector whilst meeting the expectations of the SMPTE ST 2082 standard, but on a smaller footprint; offering higher packing densities and assisting in the miniaturisation of the overall equipment profile.
Our Micro BNC range offers a selection of the favourite connectors, in single right angle, edge mount and top entry connections as well as dual-port options, again with cable connectors designed for use with Belden cable, offering the complete connection profile.
